Today I’m joined by Maersk, an organization that is on a mission to improve life for all by integrating the world.
A.P. Moller – Maersk is an integrated transport and logistics company, going all the way, together, for their customers and society, with a clear vision of transforming logistics across oceans, continents, flight paths, platforms and networks.
Today, Preben Staghoej Hansen, Regional Head of Air Freight for Asia Pacific at Maersk, joins me to explore what’s changing in global supply chains – from the growing value of integration to the challenge of balancing resilience with efficiency. We’ll also take a closer look at why Maersk has built its own air network, what that means for customers today and in the future, and the key questions every supply chain leader should be asking about their logistics network.

IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:
[03.17] An introduction to Preben, his 30+ year career with Maersk, and his current role as the Regional Head of Air Freight.
“The key for me is to make sure that Maersk airline is recognized the same way as ocean – as a quality and reliable product.”
[05.09] What drove Maersk’s transformation, from primarily an ocean carrier to a much broader integrated logistics company, and what their ‘one-sale’ approach to integrated logistics actually means for customers today.
“We recognized a high interest from clients for other logistics products… People are trying to avoid air, for good reason… but the reality is, you need it. The question is: how much?”
[09.25] From the pandemic and resulting e-commerce boom to regional wars and tariffs, how significant global issues are impacting modern supply chains and their strategies.
“No one wants to have all their eggs in China’s basket. They want to diversify… Customers are now looking for a true global partner… It’s no longer enough to be strong in one region, because production can move at any time.”
[14.50] The evolving role of air freight in modern supply chains.
“It’s become a much more integrated part of the customers choice of modality, because the world is changing fast – and the consumer wants things faster.”
[17.51] What a supply chain leader, trying to decide between ocean, air, or a combination of both, should be thinking about, and the key factors that come into play beyond simply speed and cost.
“Have an open mind!”
[22.29] Where Maersk fits in, and what’s different about the way they approach air freight, particularly when connected with ocean, road, warehousing and other logistics services.
“It all comes back to the strength of the local.”
[24.09] How an integrated Maersk solution – with a single point of contact backed by the full breadth of Maersk’s infrastructure – can give customers a competitive advantage, enabling them to operate more efficiently than when managing separate ocean, air and inland providers.
[26.09] The evolution of Maersk’s air freight capabilities, key milestones to date, and continued investment across the Asia Pacific region as they build for the future.
[30.00] Why the Asia Pacific market is critical to Maersk’s air freight strategy, and where they see the greatest opportunities and changes in demand.
[34.10] How air freight – and the ability to combine different modes – can help companies balance resilience, speed and cost, and remain competitive.
[37.13] The questions supply chain leaders should be asking about their air freight strategy, what they should be looking for in a logistics partner beyond simply the ability to move a shipment from A to B, and how Maersk approaches their own partnerships.
“Address the need for speed.”
[41.51] How the role of air freight will evolve within global supply chains over the next five years, and where Maersk want to be positioned.
